Association of Victims of the Collapse of the Two Dams of Derna: Successive governments are responsible for the issue and it is not appropriate to issue judgments in light of the division of the state
The head of the Association of Victims and Affected by the Collapse of the Wadi Derna Dam, Amraj Abdul Rahim Al-Qaziri, said regarding the issuance of judicial rulings against 12 officials accused in the case of the collapse of the dams, that it is not appropriate to adopt legal rulings in light of the division of the state, as the magnitude of the Derna disaster requires that the state not be divided.
Al-Qaziri confirmed, in statements to the “Zero” platform, that the city of Derna suffers because of this division and it is harming it, and the simplest example is the trend of those against whom legal rulings were issued from the west of the country to the east to escape the ruling, and vice versa.
He pointed out that we accept the issuance of legal rulings when a single unified state is established, as the crime that occurred against Derna does not expire with the passage of time, noting that the Ministry of Social Affairs is constantly asking us for papers and 10 months have passed and nothing has been issued from them, despite the promises of officials to stand with the victims.
He continued by saying, “We fell into the trap of the two governments between their agreement and disagreement. This is a humanitarian situation in which they must put their problems aside and form a committee from the two governments and support the city with money to help those affected.” He explained that the successive governments are responsible for the victims of the two dams in the city of Derna due to their repeated neglect of the city and its dams, calling on the government to dismiss the Minister of Social Affairs, adding, “10 months have passed and they have not given us anything except postponement and excuses between asking us to wait for a month or a week to come, or telling us that the money is with the elder.”
