Dean of the Municipality of Kufra: The entry of 1200 Sudanese a day .. We live an environmental disaster and spread for diseases

The mayor of the municipality of Kufra, Abdul Rahman Aqoub, said that we have from 45 to 50 thousand Sudanese refugees in the municipality distributed in 51 locations, stressing that about a thousand or 1,200 Sudanese currently enter Kufra on a daily basis, especially after the outbreak of battles in Darfur.

Aqoub indicated, in an intervention on the “Libya Al-Ahrar” satellite channel, that we obtain more than a thousand health certificates daily for refugees who enter Kufra, despite our limited capabilities, pointing out that 2,500 people apply daily to obtain health certificates, but we do not have sufficient capabilities for that.

He explained that 600 to 700 people leave Kufra daily for the rest of the Libyan municipalities, where communication is made with transportation offices to carry out these operations, adding that since the beginning of the year we have obtained more than 40 thousand health certificates, and we found that there are more than a thousand cases of hepatitis C and AIDS 125. Malaria 112 cases and tuberculosis 32 cases.

He continued that sanitation is a disaster in the municipality and we have noticed the spread of diseases such as scabies to a large extent among refugees and other summer skin diseases, stressing that we are living in an environmental disaster in the truest sense of the word.

He added, “We do not have places or shelters designated for them, so they resort to living on farms that do not have sewage, which causes an environmental disaster.” He explained that we have not yet recorded any unnatural deaths, despite the limited capabilities. We are trying to control the health situation.

He continued by saying that the Dabaiba government provided support to the municipality in the amount of two million dinars, which has not been disbursed yet, while the parallel government provided some hospitals with the supplies and supplies that we are trying to address the situation with.

He pointed out that they did not receive any significant funding in the municipality to address the situation, adding that the biggest crisis will occur after the end of the summer, as it is currently difficult for Sudanese to move around in terms of coming to Kufra in the desert, but in the fall there will be thousands of them in the municipality.
