Abd El-Kabir: The process of reopening the Ras Jedir crossing was fragile, and sit-ins are expected to avoid overcoming differences

The head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, Mustafa Abd El-Kabir, denied what was circulated regarding the closure of the Ras Al-Jadir border crossing after the security tension yesterday, Saturday, stressing that the road leading to the crossing was closed due to a sit-in from the Libyan side at the level of the outskirts of the gate.

Abd El-Kabir said in a statement to Tunis Gate that the crossing has not been closed. It is open on both sides, where Tunisians can cross, but Libyans are prevented by the protesters.

He continued by saying, “The Libyan protesters are protesting against the failure to meet their demands, in addition to being dissatisfied with some unacceptable practices by the security authorities,” noting that what happened at the border crossing was expected since the announcement of the opening of the crossing on June 29, due to the fragility of the situation in the border crossing. Libya.

He explained that the process of reopening the crossing was fragile, given that the causes of the real disputes between the central authority in Tripoli and the municipality of Zuwara had not been overcome, especially with regard to security deployment and trade exchange. He expected the crossing to be closed again, but he confirmed that there were solutions before the Libyan authorities to contain the dispute.
