Al-Ghawil: The tribes are in the process of declaring a general mobilization and Saif al-Islam’s nomination is a popular demand
The advisor to the Libyan Tribal Union, Khaled Al-Ghawil, said that the Libyan tribes are in the process of declaring a general mobilization soon and a comprehensive uprising to change the situation in the country, and meetings are currently being held to coordinate this uprising, adding that the candidacy of Dr. Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi in the elections is an alternative solution to the current crisis that Libya is experiencing.
Al-Ghawil explained, in an interview with the “Maghrebi Voices” website, that the movement of some Libyan tribes, especially in the city of Zintan, is not considered the first of its kind, but it differs in nature from similar movements that many Libyan cities witnessed earlier, continuing, “The current movement came As a result of the conditions that the country is experiencing, especially in the social and economic aspect, regarding the high cost of living, high prices, and lack of liquidity, in addition to the inability to control the security situation, in exchange for a major stumble in the political settlement process and setting a date for elections to end the crisis.”
He pointed out that many Libyans see Dr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi as an alternative project that can be relied upon, in the current circumstance, in order to change the situation, given the good reputation he enjoys among Libyans, and that most international missions did not mention him in any bad way, pointing out that This option is agreed upon by many political forces in Libya, which see the candidacy of Dr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi as a popular demand.
He stated that the issue of the International Criminal Court targeting Dr. Saif al-Islam does not concern the Libyans in any way and does not hinder his candidacy for the presidential elections, adding, “There are many officials in the world who have previously been pursued by the International Criminal Court, including the current Russian president, Vladimir Putin, so what concerns us is What the Libyan judiciary says and issues, and here it must be remembered that the country’s judicial institutions have previously overturned the death sentence issued against Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, a procedure that dropped all charges that were previously brought against him.”
He went on to say, “I confirm that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi now enjoys all the rights and duties as a Libyan citizen. He had previously submitted his candidacy file for the elections and the Independent Election Commission appealed his candidacy file. However, he won the case that he filed before justice at the level of the court of first instance and also before the court of appeal.”
He continued, saying, “There is no file against him before the Libyan judiciary, as evidence of the ruling issued against the appeal decision submitted by the Independent Election Commission, and there are parties spreading some rumors and disputes to block the way for Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, because they realize that he is the only person capable of restoring confidence in the Libyan institutions.”
He added, “The dialogue led by Stephanie Williams, years ago, regarding the crisis in the country did not involve the Libyans and the former Transitional Council was installed in the Elysee Palace, and the national unity government was agreed upon in Geneva.” This means that the will of the people remains the absent element in what is currently happening in Libya, and the Libyans are convinced that the popular will will prevail in the end, and preparations have begun for a comprehensive popular uprising in order to embody this vision, for which we find no alternative.”
Al-Ghawil denied the possibility of the idea of returning to arms in the tribal uprising, saying, “In my capacity as foreign affairs advisor to the Union of Libyan Tribes, I reiterate that we are against the idea of returning to arms again in order to change the current situation in the country, but if there is no explicit commitment regarding the outcomes of all… Conferences, seminars, and agreements stipulating the necessity of going to general elections in Libya, the Libyan people will be forced to go to the project of uprising and protection with weapons.”
He concluded by saying that the Libyan people are fed up with the prevailing situation, as the country’s wealth is being plundered amid continuous foreign interventions, and in light of the presence of foreign mercenaries in many regions, adding that the Libyan tribes are now in the process of holding continuous meetings and may announce a general call to stop the state of political division in the country.
