Al-Shibli: Haftar will not agree to hold elections that don’t guarantee his stay in the power
The head of the People’s Voice Party, Fathi Omar Al-Shibli, confirmed that the American Khalifa Haftar will not agree to any procedure related to the elections, unless he guarantees the existence of laws that will bring him to power, indicating that the scene in Libya after the February catastrophe is greatly complicated due to the interference of external parties.
Al-Shibli said in statements on Walid Al-Lafi’s “February” channel, “The House of Representatives and the State do not want to reach a solution to the Libyan crisis, especially after Aguila Saleh turned the House of Representatives into a political arm for Haftar.”
He continued by saying, “All parties are not in their interest to hold new elections, and each party represents a specific regional sponsor. Their interests collide with each other, and the current political disputes arose because each party wanted to form a government that followed its own whims and the group surrounding it.”
Al-Shibli touched on the Cairo meetings, and said that what happened was not an agreement, but rather merely an announcement of the formation of technical committees to amend the outcomes of the “6+6” committee and the mechanisms for forming a new government, adding, “I think the matter will stop at this point, as everyone knows that it is just a waste of time.”
He concluded by saying, “I believe that the intentions of those meeting in Cairo were not linked to resolving the Libyan crisis, because if the intentions of the political parties were sincere, the crisis would have been resolved, and I expect one of the parties to disavow, so that the management of the game and the farce that has occurred in Libya for 13 years will continue.”
