“Al-Arab” of London: Khoury will begin planning to form a new unified government and hold elections

The London newspaper Al-Arab confirmed that the appointment of Stephanie Khoury as deputy UN envoy to Libya means that the United States is once again holding the cards in the country, noting that her appointment comes at a time when all attempts to reach a political solution and organize elections have failed.

The newspaper indicated, in its report, that Stephanie Khoury will have to deal with the issue of foreign interference, which Stephanie Williams considers the norm in the crisis that has existed since 2011, pointing out that Khoury will begin planning to form a new unified government, and move towards organizing electoral elections next fall.

She added that among Khoury’s tasks is to follow up on the Bathily Initiative after introducing amendments to it in the context of new meetings with key actors in the country, explaining that Khoury will have to read the reality on the ground and deal with the political and social details that control the scene.
