Amnesty International confirms what was stated in Dr. Saif Al-Islam’s statement: All Libyan political and military authorities are responsible for the Derna disaster

Amnesty International confirmed what was stated in the statement of presidential candidate Dr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi regarding the Derna hurricane, and the responsibility of all post-February Catastrophe authorities for this disaster and that those involved in the occurrence of this tragedy will not be held accountable, as the organization indicated that all Libyan military and political parties They are responsible for these catastrophic floods and comprehensive investigations must be conducted against them.

The organization said in its report that, 6 months after the catastrophic floods occurred in Derna, the Libyan authorities are reluctant to investigate the responsibility of influential military and political parties for the catastrophic death toll, and have not guaranteed that all those affected are given equal opportunities to obtain compensation.

The organization held the Dabaiba government and the forces affiliated with Operation Dignity, which controls the affected areas, responsible for what happened, due to their failure to issue appropriate warnings and take other basic measures to mitigate risks before Hurricane Daniel, which led to the collapse of two dams in Derna.

The organization pointed out that the competing authorities in the administration of Libya failed to investigate the responsibility of those in positions of authority to protect people’s right to life, health, and other human rights, as part of the criminal investigations into the Derna disaster.
