Ajdabiya: Libyan livestock are threatened due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the municipality

The head of the foot-and-mouth disease control committee in the municipality of Ajdabiya, Ali Bouhlaika, warned that all Libyan livestock are threatened by vegetables, due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, because the municipality includes a large group of them in the country.

Bouhlika said in exclusive statements to the “Abaad” platform that the committee closed the livestock market in the municipality due to suspicion of the spread of foot-and-mouth disease there, and adopted a mechanism to provide meat within the municipality due to the closure of markets and slaughterhouses.

He pointed out that there will be members of the Environmental Sanitation and Animal Health Office in Ajdabiya and the Municipal Guard Service to approve the adoption of meat seals inside the temporarily approved slaughterhouses, to ensure that no livestock infected with foot-and-mouth disease are slaughtered.

He concluded by saying, “We have currently approved only 2 slaughterhouses, but we realize that we need to approve other slaughterhouses because the municipality is large and needs at least 5 slaughterhouses. However, we need to tighten control in order to grant larger funds. We have not yet counted the cases of livestock death due to this disease, but In the coming period, we seek to limit this disease.”
