An American Foundation: Russia is aware that Haftar plays on the ropes, but it sees he is useful for its plans

The American “Jamestown” human rights organization revealed that Russian military intelligence is currently in charge of “Wagner” operations in Libya, noting that Wagner’s activities are now directly subject to the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, with support and facilitation from the American Khalifa Haftar.

The Foundation said in its report that these forces operate under the guise of the “African Corps,” and under the direct supervision of the Russian Deputy Minister of Defense, while Haftar seeks to build relations with Russia to obtain the military support necessary for his future adventures.

The Foundation explained, “Haftar ignored American warnings about the danger of expanding Russian influence in Libya, because he is seeking to obtain air defense systems and training for his pilots and special forces to support him in any future military adventures. In return, Haftar granted the Russian Navy access to the port of Tobruk, which will give Russia It has a great advantage in the Mediterranean, where it controls two bases in Tartous and Latakia in Syria.”

She continued by saying, “Although Moscow realizes that Haftar is playing on all the ropes, as he meets Western and American officials and reassures them and does the same thing with him, they see that he is currently useful and cannot be replaced, especially since when the deployment of the African Corps is completed this summer, Libya will be an important starting point.” “For Russian operations in Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the new military alliance of the Sahel countries, which consists of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.”

The Foundation warned that these developments raise many questions to the surface, the most prominent of which is, “Could Haftar be granted a military naval base to Russia on Libyan territory, in preparation for this base to host a permanent Russian nuclear submarine, with the accompanying nuclear threat to the southern flank of Europe?”
