French Le Monde: The conflict between Tripoli and the Amazigh militias is evidence of the chaos that Libya has experienced since 2011
The French newspaper Le Monde confirmed in a report that the current conflict between the forces of the militia affiliated with Imad Al-Tribelsi and the militias of the Berber cities in the Western Mountain over control of the Ras Jdir port is evidence of the chaos that Libya has been experiencing since the February Catastrophe.
The French newspaper explained that since the fall of the martyr leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has become a prey in the hands of the militias, which share control over its various lands.
It continued, saying, “The armed clashes between the security forces affiliated with Al-Tribelsi and the Amazigh militias affiliated with the Military Council of the city of Zuwara do not seem to be resolved quickly in light of the media and military escalation, whether through Al-Trables’s statements or the Amazigh militias publishing pictures of the destruction of police cars in an attempt to humiliate the government.”
It continued saying, “The main reason for the conflict is that controlling Ras Jedir not only allows controlling the intense flow of travelers and trucks between Tunisia and Libya with its presence as an important player influencing the central authority in Tripoli, but also to ensure the sustainability of informal border trade crossings, such as fuel smuggling, which Local residents depend on it to a large extent.”
She concluded by saying, “Although the two countries prevent smuggling across the desert, this trade has escalated over the past decade, which goes hand in hand with customs evasion that is largely prevalent in the border region, the spoils of which are shared by the militias.”
