An Emirati newspaper admits that the February Catastrophe was the cause of the tension that occurred at the Ras Jadeer crossing

An Emirati newspaper admitted that the February Catastrophe and the chaos that followed were the main cause of the tension currently occurring at the Ras Jdir border crossing with Tunisia.

The Emirati newspaper Al-Bayan explained that since the February 2011 catastrophe and the spread of chaos, the militias of the city of Zawiya have extended their influence over the crossing from the Libyan side, taking advantage of it being a lifeline to the northwestern regions of Libya.

It continued by saying, “In addition to the crossing being a lifeline that transports the sick and injured for treatment in Tunisia and brings in a large number of vital goods and commodities to the cities of Zuwara, Al-Jameel, Sabratha, and Zintan, the militias have greatly benefited from it as an outlet for smuggling fuel and weapons sometimes.”

The newspaper warned of the possibility of bloody armed confrontations breaking out between forces affiliated with the militia Imad al-Tarabsi and the militias of the Berber cities in the Western Mountain, in light of the mutual media escalation between the two parties.
