International analyst: The Libyan crisis cannot be resolved while the leaders are in control of the scene

The chief Libyan analyst at the International Crisis Group, Claudia Gazzini, confirmed that the Libyan crisis cannot be resolved as long as the leaders controlling the scene in Libya after the February catastrophe remain in power.

In statements to German radio “Deutsche Welle”, Ghazzini held the resigned UN envoy Abdullah Bathily responsible for his failure to resolve the crisis, because his initiative revolved around conducting negotiations exclusively with those in power, who are essentially the reason for the failure of the Libyan state so far, according to her.

She explained, “The matter does not stop at the fact that the Libyan parties do not show any good intentions, but rather it goes beyond because these parties do not have any incentives or intention to reach a settlement.”

She added that Libya is currently torn apart and unable to control the country’s resources, and reports about the arrival of oil sales money to the east of the country reduce any incentives that might push the parties to reach a democratic political solution.
