Afhima: Parliament’s readiness does not mean that it can hold elections alone

Commenting on Aguila Saleh’s statement regarding holding presidential elections before the end of this year, a member of the Tobruk Parliament, Saleh Afhima, said that this matter is not new because Parliament has previously announced its readiness in 2021, and has already issued the necessary laws to hold presidential and parliamentary elections.

Afhima confirmed, during an intervention with France 24, that in 2021 other statements came out saying that elections cannot be held in light of division and that the government must be unified first and disarmed, indicating that Parliament is ready and this does not mean that it can hold elections, but there is Many steps and a package of procedures must be taken before proceeding with it.

He explained that the political problem in Libya requires international support, and this support is not available at the current stage. Rather, there is a clear division over holding elections, pointing out that there are a number of international actors, including the United States of America, that support holding legislative elections only.
