French magazine: Russia is working to establish a strong military infrastructure in Libya to supply the Maghreb with weapons

The French magazine “Le Point” confirmed that Libya is gradually turning into the “Russian military center” in what is called the “Greater Maghreb,” adding that Russia is working to establish a strong military infrastructure in Libya, which will work to supply the Maghreb and Sahel region with weapons and mercenaries.

The magazine pointed out, in a report, that although the term “Greater Maghreb” was widespread during the recent European Parliament election campaign when addressing immigration issues, Russia has been using this term for some time to establish a new reality.

It explained that Moscow is moving to establish areas of influence in the Maghreb, especially Libya, as an attempt to ease pressure on it in the Ukrainian war.

The magazine continued that Russia took advantage of the fragility of the situation in the Sahel region and Libya, and the expulsion of France from that region, to cultivate broad influence, based on anti-Western or non-anti-Western stakeholders.

She concluded by saying: “These Russian endeavors are greatly supported by China, which supports it economically to achieve these goals, through which the southern flank of the European continent will be surrounded.”
