The London newspaper Al-Arab about the “Berbers”: They seek to impose their existence as a fourth region
The London newspaper Al-Arab reported that the Berbers of Libya realize that the country will return to a federal system, and are seeking to impose their presence as a fourth region alongside Cyrenaica, Tripolitania and Fezzan, and to include this in any serious draft constitution.
The newspaper confirmed, in its report, that all attempts to appease the Berbers in Libya will be of no use in overcoming the fundamental differences, noting that they rejected the draft constitution, because it lacks the requirements for preserving their cultural and historical rights in the country.
It pointed out that the Berbers believed that they had achieved a great victory after the overthrow of the regime of the martyr leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, and that they would begin to consolidate their national and cultural identity, explaining that they were looking forward to extending their influence over their regions on the West Coast.
The report continued that the Ras Jadir crossing has become one of the most important smuggling ports, making it a primary source of funding for regional militias and reviving the local economy in Zuwara and its environs.
