Italian expert: The recruitment of the Russian African Legion in Libya is very worrying
The Libyan affairs expert at the Italian Med Hour Foundation, Daniele Rovinetti, said that the news regarding the new recruitment by the Russian African Legion of local fighters in different regions of Africa is very disturbing.
He added, in an article published by the Italian “italpress” agency, that we know that the Russian African Legion is already stationed in Libya, which is also used as a logistical platform for other activities in the Sahel region and Central Africa, indicating that recruitment into the Russian African Legion has become a form of response to difficulties. Social and economic impact of some African youth.
He explained that for the European Union, the issue of recruitment is a loud and clear alarm bell, adding, “The danger is to lose further contact with the continent.”
He pointed out that the Russian penetration – based on an anti-Western narrative, which is also pushed through disinformation – is not limited to the security context in the strict sense of the word, as is the case with the agreements decided upon by some coup plotters with the Kremlin.
He continued, saying, “Recruitment campaigns could be a sign that Moscow does not have enough fighters to send to Africa because the Ukrainian commitment is burdensome, but the resulting effect may be positive for Russia.”
