American website: Biden’s State Department notifies Congress of its plan to restore diplomatic presence in Libya
The American Al-Monitor website confirmed that the administration of US President Joe Biden believes that the US diplomatic presence in Libya is crucial to help confront the growing Russian footprint in Africa, as well as support the UN-led campaign to hold elections.
The site reported that the Biden administration notified Congress of its plan to restore the American diplomatic presence in Libya, after a decade of unrest in the North African country that forced American diplomats to evacuate the American embassy in Tripoli.
The State Department submitted formal notification to lawmakers this month, beginning what the department expects will be a one- to two-year process to establish a “temporary diplomatic facility” in Libya, a senior State Department official said.
The official confirmed in statements to Al-Monitor that there is no alternative to continuous communication on the ground with Libyan actors, noting that sufficient time has been taken to carry out careful planning for this important event.
He pointed out that it is a very complex task to resume operations in a suspended location, explaining that at this moment after the death of Prigozhin, there is a kind of continuous development in how Russia carries out its activities across the African continent.
He explained that it is logical that, while most other countries, including major powers, establish their diplomatic presence in Tripoli, the United States should do the same.
