Lebanese Channel: Hannibal Gaddafi has no information about Al-Sadr’s disappearance and there are those who do not want him to face justice
The Lebanese Channel 23 website confirmed that Captain Hannibal Gaddafi, who was kidnapped in Lebanon, does not have any information about the disappearance of Musa al-Sadr, indicating that there are those who do not want Hannibal to appear before justice.
The channel’s website explained that 9 years have passed without any date being issued for a trial session for Hannibal, knowing that he does not have any information about al-Sadr’s disappearance because the incident occurred when he was a child.
The channel indicated that the Lebanese judiciary has placed all the data that proves Hannibal’s innocence in unknown drawers and insisted on imprisoning him without trial.
The channel touched on what the head of the Arab Unification Party, Wiam Wahhab, said about his possession of information about the case of al-Sadr’s disappearance, and said that the judiciary’s failure to hear his testimony is part of the injustice that Hannibal Gaddafi is being subjected to.
The channel quoted a source in the Lebanese judiciary as saying that if Wahhab’s allegations that he has important information about the disappearance of Imam al-Sadr are true, as stated in his statement, why did he keep quiet about it for 9 years and why did he not present it to the competent judiciary instead of announcing it through the media and social media?
The source added, “Hannibal’s file has been political par excellence since the moment Gaddafi was arrested, because he was no more than two years old when Imam al-Sadr was kidnapped, and there is no solid and objective scientific data to convict him. As for the legal aspect, it is absolutely illegal to detain any accused for 9 years without a trial.”
It continued, “Hannibal’s file may find a legal solution if the judiciary regains its neglected role, and we all know who is putting a spoke in its wheels, and also when we become a state of law. Then it becomes obvious to try Gaddafi according to the available data, as it is not permissible to force any accused to confess to an act that he says he had no knowledge of.”
The Lebanese judicial source spoke about the possibility of releasing Hannibal without trial if international pressures combine, saying: “Anything is possible in a country left to the law of the jungle, and international authorities may demand that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri hold a trial. If the judiciary proves that he has information, he will be sentenced to prison based on a documented charge and solid evidence, otherwise he will be released and returned to his country.”
It added, “The judicial authority that officially and periodically approves his continued detention is still unknown, as is the number of times he has appeared before the judge, which proves that the case is purely political.”
It added, “If the allegations of the Lebanese authorities that Hannibal Gaddafi submitted a written statement during his detention containing information about the alleged detention of al-Sadr and his assistants in Libya after their disappearance are true, then why is he not tried on this basis and why was the statement of Gaddafi’s lawyer not taken into account regarding his denial of all these allegations and that his client was forced to sign the document under duress, without the presence of a lawyer?”
It concluded by saying, “There will be no trial for Hannibal Gaddafi because there are those who do not want him to appear before the arc of justice. The charge of concealing information is false, and therefore he will be acquitted.”
