Middle East Online: Al-Dabaiba is unable to control the militias’ power in Zawiya and faces international pressure to relinquish power

The Middle East Online website confirmed that the city of Zawiya is witnessing clashes between armed groups and is returning to violence due to the influence of the militias, amid calls to stop it to secure the release of stranded families. No information was available regarding the identity of the gunmen or the reasons for the clashes, and no statement was issued by the Dabaiba government.

The website indicated that Dabaiba is facing international pressure to push him to relinquish power and make room for the formation of a national government that will prepare for legislative and presidential elections postponed since December 2021.

It explained that these repeated clashes indicate the fragility of the security situation in western Libya and also the inability of Al-Dabaiba to control them, pointing out that the deteriorating security situation in Al-Zawiya caused a large wave of protests in the city that developed into civil disobedience and the burning of government headquarters.

The site continued that the oil-rich country is suffering from security unrest, political conflicts, and disagreements between the parties without holding long-awaited parliamentary and presidential elections.
