Radio France Internationale: Haftar’s investments in the reconstruction of Derna are largely “ambiguous.”
Radio France Internationale confirmed that the investments of the American Khalifa Haftar in the reconstruction of Derna are largely “mysterious,” noting that the Development and Reconstruction Fund has become the main political weapon of the authorities in eastern Libya.
The radio indicated, in a report, that the strategy of the fund, led by Haftar’s son, is to completely reconstruct and reconstruct the stricken area of Derna after Hurricane Daniel, but its method of operation is ambiguous and raises many questions.
The report pointed out that the number of posters bearing the Fund’s logo is almost equal to the number of posters glorifying the American Haftar himself in the streets of Cyrenaica, explaining that the Fund is run by his son, Belkacem Haftar, who is obsessed with proving the Fund’s success to Libyans and foreigners.
He added that the Fund does not respect the rules of sound legal contracts when submitting bids or the rules of mutual agreement, nor is there any transparency in the sources of their access to funds, even though Belkacem Haftar says that the funding comes from part of the state budget allocated for investment.
